The kind who doesn’t want to end up a few hundo in the hole after he’s done his job.
EDIT: I think I missed the tone of your comment, anyway. Misread the last part as some kind of anger that Avery was making too many charges. Tone is lost in the internet, apologies all around. etc.
Hmm. That doesn’t really explain why he isn’t billing for “EVERYTHING and then some”, does it? Because more money ought to help him not ending up in the hole.
Or should there have been a “just” in there? As in: “The kind who just doesn’t want to end up a few hundo in the hole after he’s done his job.” As in him being a bit charitable because he’s not very concerned with making a profit, he just doesn’t want to lose money? So he’s selling his service at cost, sort of.
Well, it could be less a matter of how charitable he’s feeling than how much he doesn’t want his low-rent ass sued for excessive billing — or, as the client’s legalzoom advice would couch it, ‘fraud.’ Or both. He can be kind and litigationophobic at the same time.
What kind of private eye is this? You bill the client for EVERYTHING, and then some.

Karma points for the selfless atonement. I hope that weird-haired hipster gets his chops busted, at some point.
